1. Do I have to join the military?
No, Military service is not required upon graduation, but we encourage you to look at all of your options.

2. Why is the program 22 weeks long?
We have 2 Classes per  year, which breaks down to 6 months or 22 weeks per class. Also studies have proven that it takes 20-28 weeks to develop consistent habits. In your case, they will be good productive habits.

3. What is the cost of the program?
Nothing! The program is free to 16-18 year old New Mexico Residents.

4. Why do I have to have a mentor?
A very important part of the program is post graduation, for 1 year we stay in touch with you to help you adjust. Your Mentor is an integral part of this, he or she will meet with you once a week to help, lead, guide, and direct you on the path to success!

5. Can I have visitors?
Visitors will be allowed on specified dates that usually occur once per month.

6. Will I have to run?
Yes! The program has physical requirements, but don't worry, we will start slow and work you up to the best physical shape possible.

7. What will I do during the day?
An average day at the New Mexico Youth Challenge is filled with physical fitness, academics, and community  service.


8. Will I be able to call home?
Yes, you will be able to call home, during specified times on weekends.


9. Will I be able to go home for special occasions?
Cadets will be allowed to go home on approved occasions (ie spring break and Thanksgiving break).

10. What should I bring?
A list of articles that you must bring is in the 'Cadet Application Form and is called the “packing list”.

11. How do I get my GED scores sent to the College or University I desire and how do I handle taking ACT tests?
Contact the education coordinator (Mr. Luginbill) for assistance with scheduling ACT tests.  His email address is listed in the
LINKS/ADMIN section.  For dealing with results, contact the ABE Department at ENMUR (505-624-7000) and they will mail transcripts.

12.  How do I find out additional information about the New Mexico Lottery Scholarship?
