About New Mexico
New Mexico, USA! The Land of Enchantment. You will find both sandy deserts and  snow capped peaks in New Mexico. In fact, about the only thing you won't find  in New Mexico is an ocean.
New Mexico is rich in Spanish and Native American Culture. The Mescalero Apache Reservation is 75 miles west of Roswell. The reservation hosts a  world  class ski resort as well as a Las Vegas caliber casino, 'The Inn of the Mountain Gods.'
New Mexico is also home of one of the most infamous battles in the old west,  'The Lincoln County War.' During this period names such as the infamous William  H. Bonney (aka: Billy the Kid), Pat Garrett, and John Chisum became prominent.  John Chisum was the 'Cattle King,' and Pat Garrett was eventually credited with  killing Billy the Kid, in Ft. Sumner, New Mexico.
New Mexico is the 4th largest state in the Continental US, so we have lots  of  ground to cover. One spectacular attraction 97 miles south of Roswell, near  Carlsbad, New Mexico, is the 'Carlsbad Caverns.' Ride the elevator 750 feet  below the surface, or walk-in  through the cave entrance. In the evening, you can  sit in the amphitheatre and watch more than one million bats fly out to feed.
All of the above mentioned sites and events  exist, or happen, within a 100  mile radius of Roswell.
